Welcome to DIY-Design It Yourself where we specialize in the gift-giving process.  We allow you to design  your own crochet gift for any gift-giving occasion.  I can help you to design baby shower gifts, which include:  baby blankets and booties, bibs, diaper covers, hats, stuffed animals and the like.  For Mother's Day I can help you design shawls, slippers, wall hangings, picture frames, and much more.  The choices I provide are endless.  And the best part is, I will be with you every step of the way.  I can answer any questions you might have. I can guide with color choices, if you should need it.   Therefore, you can't go wrong.  It really is a fail-proof system.

You may wonder how all this works.  It may even seem daunting to you.  But I guarantee you that the process is simple and painless to use.  All the directions are provided for you.   You can even print them out for easy use.  The directions come with standardized questionaires.  By answering just a few questions, pertaining to the item you want to design, and browsing the website, you can have your design project ready in no time at all.  It's that simple.  Really it is.  And when your ready to process your order, that will be even easier.  All you have to do is fill in the blanks on the order form, hit submit, then your project is on its way to becoming a masterpiece.  You can learn more about the designing process by clicking on the "Gift Design Center".  You can use this for your own personal use or for your home décor needs.  It's all the same process. 

For those of you, unfamiliar with crochet, it is an intricate craft in which you use yarn, a hook, and a combination of stitches to make various things such as handbags, scarves, afghans, baby blankets, or virtually anything you want.  There are hundreds of variations of stitches that can be made using the single crochet, half double crochet, double crochet, treble crochet among others.  It is the many different combinations of these stitches that make them unique and all their own.  I have set-up a Crochet Stitch Database of the stitches available on this website.  You will have the opportunity to view each crochet stitch.  I will also provide samples of the stitch used in various ways, such as in scarves, handbags, or afghans so that you can get a clear idea of what you might want to design.  Take your time and browse the Crochet Stitch Database.  This list is continuously growing, so check back frequently to see new stitches as they are posted.

Once you've selected the crochet stitch and the project you want to design, the fun begins.  The fun part comes when trying to select the color and type of yarn you want for your project.  There are so many different types of yarns from baby weight, sock weight, sport weight, worsted weight, even chunky or bulky yarn.  And with each different type of yarn you have many colors to choose from.  You can have bold colors, or pastels. solids or self-striping.  There are many different manufacturers that produce these yarns.  Each has their own texture, size and weight.  With each of these types and colors of yarn, you can achieve a variety of effects.. One yarn type may be soft and give you a subtle look, while another type of yarn may be bulky and give you a look of wintery warmth.  You may be asking yourself, what does she mean by that?  Well, simply said, suppose you want to design a baby blanket for your sister's upcoming baby shower.  You don't want to use a thick, bulky yarn.  That will make the blanket heavy and uncomfortable for the infant.  Instead, you would want to choose a softer yarn, perhaps a baby weight yarn, or sport weight yarn.  This will make the blanket soft and cuddly.  You can view my Yarn Costumization Page to view the different types of yarn and weight sizes available for your project.  Again, if you should need help choosing the right yarn, I'm always available to you.
